EarthSense to bring air quality monitoring to oil and gas industry in Iraq

EarthSense has announced a distribution agreement with Al Murabit Company, a leader in supplying the oil and gas industry in Iraq.

The partnership with EarthSense will enable Al Murabit Company to offer air quality monitoring and consultancy services to companies in Iraq, which includes upstream, midstream and downstream segments of the oil and gas industry.

Al Murabit Company will distribute EarthSense Zephyr  monitors and leverage EarthSense’s data access web application, MyAir to provide an air quality monitoring service. Partnering with EarthSense enables Al Murabit Company to collate baseline data, carry out risk assessments and provide guidance to clients about how to appropriately mitigate elevated levels of air pollution such as harmful gases and particulates.

Studies have linked oil and natural gas exploration, production, and refining with ambient air pollution and adverse health effects, making monitoring of associated facilities – such as fence line monitoring – critical to protecting public health.

Hawkar Dizaye, Managing Director at Al Murabit Company said: ‘As one of the first and longest-standing oil and gas services companies in the region, we are proud to have been a critical player in the country’s development and continue this leadership with the EarthSense partnership. Bringing industry-leading air quality monitors and innovative modelling tools to Iraq will help drive our industries forward for the next generation.’

Greg Lewis, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at EarthSense said: ‘The carbon-intensive oil and gas industry is undergoing massive disruption with more countries and companies trying to implement net zero emissions and improve overall sustainability, including air quality and impact on local communities. EarthSense is proud to partner with Al Murabit Company to be part of that transformation in Iraq and beyond.’

Companies based in Iraq now have the option to purchase EarthSense’s Zephyr  monitors via Al Murabit Company on annual or multiyear subscription-based plans to fit within their budgets and project timings. By creating air quality monitoring networks, municipalities, manufacturing, and processing businesses can respond to environmental challenges, launch baseline monitoring projects, ensure compliance with local policies to minimise exposure, or implement programmes to reduce emissions.

The Zephyr (pictured here)is an iMCERTS certified real time air quality monitor that takes live measurements of ambient air pollutants, including nitrogen dioxide (NO2), nitric oxide (NO), ozone (O3), hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and particulate matter (PM1, PM2.5, PM10). Measurements are sent back to the MyAir® web application, where air quality data can be viewed, analysed, and downloaded. Used in combination with the MappAir air quality model, users can pull various insights about areas of interest, such as pollution hotspots, peak times, and identify nearby sources contributing to elevated levels.
