Norway is the most EV friendly country

Norway has 655 fast EV charge points for every 100km of motorway, making it the best country for an EV road trip, according to UK car dealership Carwow. 

With searchers for flight-free holidays up by nearly 50% and electric car sales up by 150% in 2020 compared to 2019, Carwow has created an index to see how the UK compares to other countries for EV driving. 

Carwow rated ten European countries on the number of EV vehicle users per person, the number of fast and public charging points per kilometre of motorway and the country area size and population. 

The researchers found that Norway has the highest density of fast chargers, with 655 per 100km of the motorway. 

The Netherlands has the highest number of chargers, 50,289, however, it has a lot less fast chargers. 

The UK has a total of 4,008 fast chargers, coming in sixth place. 

The top ten countries were ranked as followed: Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, UK, Croatia, Austria, Germany, Slovenia.

Mat Watson, car expert at Carwow said: ‘With climate change constantly on the news agenda, everyone is looking at ways to play their part and go a bit greener, and the way you travel is a major way to do your bit. 

‘Whilst the UK fares well as a contender for an EV friendly driving holiday, you can access a huge amount of Europe without stepping onto a plane. 

‘The good news is the charging network is getting better and better every day, and some European countries are already leagues ahead, so if you’re driving electric you can fully relax.

‘With a bit of planning, the journey can be part of the holiday, bringing a new definition to taking the scenic route.

‘We’re looking forward to seeing EU countries become more and more accessible as the EV market continues to grow.’
