Cash boost as North Lincs aims to improve air quality

North Lincolnshire council to invest £469,000 in sustainable cycling infrastructure.

A £469,200 grant from the government is being used by North Lincolnshire council to promote cycling schemes to improve air quality in the district.

North Lincolnshire council has received the funding from the government’s £21 million Local Sustainable Travel Fund which is overseen by the Department for Transport.

The scheme hopes to encourage people to cycle to work.

The aim of the scheme is to boost local economies by supporting people to get to their place of work or education using a cheap, clean and healthy travel option.

North Lincolnshire’s cycling initiative is likely to include: bike maintenance sessions; try a bike sessions; cycle training for adults and children; and improved cycle maps.

Councillor Rob Waltham, deputy leader of North Lincolnshire council, said: “It is fantastic news that the government is continuing to invest in the region. Sustainable transport offers people a cheap and healthy way to access jobs and education.

“Our new cycling schemes will make a real difference to residents and businesses by helping to cut congestion and improve air quality. Residents will be given the skills, confidence and resources to travel on two wheels.

“This is a significant investment that will boost our local economy by supporting people to get to their place of work or education.”
