Car-maker Jaguar is to enter the electric vehicle market, announcing the launch of it I-PACE concept vehicle today (15 November).
Due to be available to buy in 2018, the I-PACE promises a 500km range, with a 0-100% charge of the vehicle’s lithium ion battery expected to take around two hours for a 50kW DC charge.
According to Jaguar, the all-wheel drive vehicle will be capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in around four seconds, with two electric motors offering a combined power output of 400PS and 700Nm of torque.
Jaguar Land Rover formally announced the launch of the vehicle at a car launch in Los Angeles.
Commenting on the new vehicle, Jaguar’s director of design Ian Callum, said: “People tell me they think the car is going to change. Well, as long as we’ve got eyes in our heads and sit the way we do in cars they’re not. What changes with a battery electric vehicle is the absence of mechanical machinery sitting in particular places. That’s the opportunity.â€
