Mitie has been awarded a contract worth £4.3m to transform parking options at Job Centres across the UK, helping the Department for Work & Pensions deliver on wider net zero ambitions.
The deal will see the company design, install, and maintain EO electric vehicle (EV) charging points at the sites, further cementing its relationship with the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP), which has already seen close collaboration on sustainability, waste management, biodiversity, decarbonisation and solar power.
This is the second large-scale EV infrastructure project Mitie has been given by the public sector, having previously taken charge of £4.5m worth of installation and maintenance work for the Environment Agency. The firm has also already rolled out more than 2,000 charging points at staff homes and various private sector locations.
‘Getting workplace car parks ready and welcoming with charging facilities is critical for the transition to an electric future. We are proud to partner with DWP as they lead the way in demonstrating their commitment to net zero with EV ready sites,’ said Pradyumna Pandit, Managing Director, Sustainability and Energy Services, Mitie.
The news comes shortly after it was announced EVs are now outselling diesel cars in the UK, however, despite rising sales of electric battery powered models, there are still huge differences in access to infrastructure between UK regions.
