Brighton & Hove City Council are the latest local authority to hold a ‘Charge & Drive’ event, informing local people about the benefits of electric vehicles and attempting to dispel some myths in the process.
The event, which will be held on 3rd April, is a collaboration with Electra Connect who work with local authorities to take EVs to communities, offering test drives, educational sessions, and expert advice.
The Council will also use the ‘EV community experience day’ to let people know about their plans for expanding the city’s already impressive public charging network.
It’ll be an opportunity for anyone to hear about our plans to expand the city’s EV network of chargers, test drive an electric vehicle and speak to some industry experts.
The event will feature a test drive zone, where drivers can go for a spin in a variety of EVs, with vans and bikes included in addition to cars.
There will also be a Knowledge Hub, where experts will discuss topics such as the benefits of EVs, the future of transportation, and the latest charging infrastructure.
Among the speakers will be Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet member for Transport, Parking and Public Realm. He said: ‘This is going to be a great event and I’m really looking forward to speaking and hearing more about the future of electric vehicles in our city.
‘Brighton & Hove already has one of the best EV charging infrastructures in the country with over 500 public charge points. But our ambition to expand means we’ll be adding at least 1600 more over the next 3 years while offering more choice and flexible tariffs for our residents, visitors and local businesses.
‘Providing clean, affordable and low carbon energy for transport is essential to achieve net zero in the city.’
In an effort to reduce people’s anxiety over EV charging, a Charging Demo Area will feature demonstrations of a variety of charging solutions, both at home and on the road.
There will also be a space for local businesses involved in electric mobility to show off their products and services.
Event Director Harrison Hughes said: ‘I’m excited to welcome everyone to the Charge & Drive event on Madeira Drive.
‘This is a great chance for our community to experience electric vehicles, learn about the latest in EV technology, and see how we’re driving sustainable transport forward in Brighton & Hove.
‘We’re here to make clean, affordable, low-carbon transport a reality for everyone.’
On 21st June, Electra Connect will also be hosting the London To Brighton Electric Vehicle Rally in which drivers can win prizes by making the most energy-efficient journey in a variety of vehicle categories.
