We’re delighted to announce that Professor Francis Pope from the University of Birmingham will be speaking at the Northern Air Quality Conference, taking place in Manchester on 25th March.
This completes the line-up of speakers, which once again represents a broad spectrum of academics, campaigners and local authority representatives.
Professor Pope is an expert on the causes and effects of air pollution, climate change and resilient cities. He draws together and synthesises evidence from multiple disciplines, including the natural, medical, data and social sciences, to understand how air pollution affects human health and how they relate to urban development.
His work has featured in Air Quality news many times, most recently when we reported on a new study that found even brief exposure to particulate matter can make everyday tasks more difficult.
Joining Francis in addressing the conference will be :
Zack Polanski, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of England & Wales. Zack is a London Assembly Member and has chaired London’s Environment Committee for the last two years. He convened a cross party report into air pollution making recommendations to the Mayor – including passing a motion across the Assembly in support of Ella’s Law.
Jon Burke. Currently at Gloucester City Council, Jon has spent almost two decades in Local and City Government. While the Cabinet Member for Energy, Sustainability, Transport and Public Realm at Hackney, he delivered the largest urban tree planting programme in the UK and the UK’s largest number of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and School Streets.
Katie Williams is the Delivery Manager for the Air Quality and Aerosol Metrology Group at the National Physical Laboratory. Katie is currently responsible for managing two large Air Quality network contracts for Defra and the Environment Agency.
Professor Greg Marsden, Professor of Transport Governance at the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds. Greg is an expert in climate and energy policy in the transport sector and the governance of smart mobility. He leads the Place theme in the national Energy Demand Research Centre and is Director of the INFUZE project which is exploring post car-ownership futures.
Liz Godfrey, Mums for Lungs. Liz is the Greater Manchester Coordinator for Mums for Lungs. Prior to this role, Liz worked at Global Action Plan undertaking youth engagement projects across the city.
