Registration open for UKRI/Met Office Clean Air Programme Conference

The 2024 UKRI/Met Office Clean Air Programme Conference ‘Analysis and Solutions: Responding to the Clean Air Challenge‘, is taking place at Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre in Birmingham on the 2nd and 3rd October 2024.

The conference seeks to bring together researchers, funders, policymakers, industry, and not-for-profit representatives, providing a forum for sharing knowledge and making connections across the clean air community.

The conference will be addressing four overarching themes:

The lifetime impact of air pollution
New tools to address the health impact of air quality on the population, with a focus on vulnerable groups and the importance of both indoor and outdoor exposure.

Innovative Developments driving Impact
The new methods and technologies developed during the Clean Air Programme that are improving our understanding of air quality issues and reducing their impact.

From research to the real world
Implementing the outputs from air quality research findings in diverse user communities including communicating benefits, the standardisation of methods and informing future clean air policies.

The evolving clean air landscape
Positioning the clean air community to meet future challenges such as the transition to a low (net zero) carbon economy.

The organisers have confirmed a diverse lineup of external speakers from a wide range of disciplines and research areas:

• Professor Sir Michael Marmot (Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London).
• Professor Louise Heathwaite (Distinguished Professor in the Lancaster Environment Centre at Lancaster University and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Research and Enterprise. New executive Chair of NERC).
• Professor Kamaldeep Bhui (Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford and Honorary Professor in the Center for Psychiatry at Queen Mary University of London).
• Professor Alastair Lewis (Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry at University of York).
• Professor David Topping (Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Atmospheric Science, University of Manchester, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs)

The organisers are keen to engage with Early Career Researchers, in particular, those who have been involved in one of the UKRI NERC SPF funded projects. A number of networking activities will be available for ECRs during the event.

As an addendum, Air Quality News can announce that our National Air Quality Conference will be held in London on 6th November. Due to significant rebuilding work at Lords’ the conference will be held at Prospero House. Delegate tickets will go online soon, as will the details of first confirmed speakers.
