To mark this year’s Clean Air Day, The Building Engineering Services Association are hosting two walks in support of the Ella Roberta Foundation. One in London and one in the Peak District.
Aside from raising money for the Ella Roberta Foundation BESA – formerly known as the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association – are aiming to raise awareness of air pollution problem by bringing people together to collaborate and share their knowledge.
Ella’s mother, Rosamund has been working alongside BESA as the Honorary President of their Indoor Air Quality Group.
The London walk, which takes place on 19th June – Clean Air Day – will be led by the BESA Indoor Air Quality Group. The walkers will meet at the Ella Roberta Memorial in Mountsfield Park, Lewisham at 10am. They will be divided into three groups, each of which will experience the city’s air quality in a different way.
The destination will be Elmgreen School, roughly five miles away. The first group will get there by following the heavily congested South Circular, the road that had such a devastating impact on Ella’s health.
The second group will use Google maps to try and find a less polluted route to walk, while the third will have access to the Air Aware app which will provide them with hyper-local, time-specific information on air quality.
After the walk refreshment will be served at the Tulse Hill Hotel.
The following day, BESA’s Next Gen Group will be leading a walk around Mam Tor in Derbyshire’s Peak District.
