Eminox eyes growth after 40-year milestone

Exhaust technology specialist Eminox is targeting growth in UK and overseas markets as municipalities and public transport operators seek to take action against dirty air in towns and cities.

The Lincolnshire-based company designs and manufactures exhaust and emission-control systems for heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.

Founded in 1978, Eminox employs nearly 300 staff at its headquarters and manufacturing sites near Gainsborough.

Famous for pioneering the vertical exhaust stack, the company has also led the development of exhaust after-treatment systems for heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment, including continuously regenerating trap (CRT) diesel particulate technology.

The company was among the first to be accredited under the Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme for its SCRT technology which can reduce NOx and NO2 by 99%, and particulate matter by 95%, resulting in emissions equivalent to Euro VI in buses and other heavy vehicles.

Retrofit

Eminox is currently working with Transport for London on a major retrofit programme to prepare the transport authority’s fleet for the introduction of the London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in 2019 and has provided the latest emissions reduction technology to 64% of the 1,100 of TfL’s buses already retrofitted.

Last week the company hosted a special event at its Gainsborough head office, testing and manufacturing facility to mark its 40th year in operation and to look ahead at future developments in the exhaust after-treatment market.

Delegates at the event heard that the company is seeking to double its output to over 1,000 units per year as it seeks to meet increasing demand for low emission vehicle technologies due to an increased focus on air quality from urban authorities.

Addressing guests at the event, Mark Runciman, the company’s managing director, said: “Eminox’s success over the last 40 years demonstrates our ongoing innovation and strong partnerships and, above all, the dedication and skills of our workforce.

“Looking forward, governments around the world are committing themselves to a zero-emissions future. However, we need to act now on poor air quality, and that’s why we are seeing increasing global demand for our exhaust after-treatment systems as cities around the world improve their environments and protect their citizens’ health.”
