Wandsworth expands e-bike access and parking

Wandsworth Council is stepping up its support for active travel by expanding e-bike and e-scooter access across the borough and making it safer and more affordable for all.

In partnership with providers Lime, Forest, and Voi, the council has announced new measures to improve e-bike parking and accessibility, including a 50% discount on e-bike and e-scooter rides for residents eligible under its new Access for All scheme.

In the year between May 2024 and May 2025, Wandsworth residents took nearly 7 million trips using rented e-bikes. In response, the council is working to ensure these services are both safe and sustainable.

So far, 170 designated parking bays have been installed to reduce clutter and ensure pavements are clear, with 65 more on the way, prioritising busy town centres.

Councillor Jenny Yates, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: ‘E-bikes are here to stay as a key part of Wandsworth’s transport network. We’re committed to sustainable travel, but it must be done responsibly.’

The council is also preparing to crack down on pavement obstruction, allowing residents to report abandoned or poorly parked e-bikes and e-scooters. Offending vehicles will be removed by officers and impounded at the operating company’s expense.

In addition, Wandsworth is investing in cycling infrastructure, with 120 new bike hangars currently being installed. Once complete, the borough will host 347 bike hangars, the most of any London council.

The new Access for All scheme offers discounted Lime e-bike rides for Wandsworth residents receiving benefits, free school meals, or those with refugee or care-experienced status. The initiative aims to break down barriers to sustainable transport and ensure cycling is a practical, affordable option for everyone in the borough.

The scheme also offers half price access to athletic tracks, free off-peak membership to Wandsworth gyms and leisure centres and free swimming crash courses for children in school years 2-7 who are not able to swim 25m.

Council Leader Simon Hogg said: ‘“This deal is a win-win. It’s about opening up affordable, sustainable travel that helps our residents to access work and entertainment opportunities across the borough. We’re proud that Lime, Forest and Voi have agreed to join Access for All and to operate respectfully and safely. We are making sure that no one is priced out of healthy and sustainable travel.’
