ACOEM Group acquires Air Monitors Ltd

The ACOEM Group has acquired the UK air quality monitoring specialists Air Monitors Ltd.

The move is a statement of intent by the ACOEM Group — one of the world’s leading environmental monitoring organisations — as it bids to support the development of smart cities in the UK and further afield.

Air Monitors Ltd has played a key role in the implementation of London mayor Sadiq Khan’s Breathe London project, which is aiming to create the world’s most sophisticated air quality monitoring network in the UK capital.

Launched in January 2019, Breathe London uses hyperlocal small sensor air quality monitoring technology to map air pollution levels and collate detailed analysis of the problem.

Earlier this year, ten hospitals in some of London’s most polluted boroughs were installed with air quality monitors as part of the Breathe London projects to help protect hospital staff and patients from the effects of air pollution.

Jim Mills, the founder and managing director of Air Monitors Ltd, will continue to work with his company as part of ACOEM’s Environment team, building on the organisation’s global smart cities strategy.

Mills said: ‘I look forward to working with more cities to plan and deliver similar environmental monitoring initiatives for which there is an enormous need and growing demand.’

ACOEM’s acquisition of Air Monitoring Ltd also marks an expansion for Ecotech, the Australian air quality monitoring company that merged with ACOEM in 2017.

Felicity Sharp, who became head of Ecotech Europe last year, will now step into the role of the company’s managing director.
