DfT welcomes growth in low emission vehicle registration

Transport Minister Andrew Jones has welcomed the publication of figures yesterday (June 12) suggesting that the UK has seen a ‘substantial’ increase in the number of new ultra low emission vehicles being registered.

The figures were contained within the government’s quarterly Vehicle Licensing Statistics, which are compiled by the Department for Transport (DfT).

And, the figures suggest that of the 872,000 registered for the first time in January to March 2015, 9,046 were ultra low emission vehicles. This represents a rise of 366% from the same period in 2014, the Department claims.

Overall vehicle registrations are up 9% on the same quarter in 2014.

Commenting on the figures Transport Minister Andrew Jones said: “I am delighted to see such a huge rise in the number of people buying ultra low emission vehicles. The Go Ultra Low campaign is making low emission vehicles an increasingly popular choice and the government is investing £500 million over the next 5 years in making them more accessible to families and businesses across the country.

“It’s a great example of Britain leading the way in developing sustainable transport options that are affordable for everyone.”

The government’s ‘Go Ultra Low’ campaign, administered through the DfT’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles, which is also funded by industry and aims to increase consumer and fleet uptake of Ultra Low Emission Vehicles.
