Ricardo-AEA to monitor Riyadh air quality

Ricardo-AEA has been awarded a three year contract to provide city-wide air quality monitoring and data analysis for Saudi Arabia’s capital city, Riyadh.

Ricardo’s work will help the ArRiyadh Development Authority make environmental improvements

According to the London-based consultancy firm, the work will provide a robust evidence base to help the ArRiyadh Development Authority make environmental improvements.

As part of the contract Ricardo-AEA is working in collaboration with air monitoring equipment supplier Envirozone LLC to develop a comprehensive air monitoring network consisting of 17 air monitoring stations across the city.

Network

The network will measure a wide range of different air pollutants and will make nearly 10 million discrete measurements throughout the duration of the contract. Ricardo-AEA will regularly monitor the network’s data, critically reviewing, interpreting and rapidly disseminating pollutant information. The information will enable the ArRiyadh Development Authority to understand how pollution is being formed in the city and take targeted steps to improve air quality.

The company’s air quality & environment practice director Sean Christiansen, said: “This contract represents a major progression of Ricardo-AEA’s business in Saudi Arabia. Our team of air quality experts is delivering an authoritative evidence base that will support the city’s ambitions for environmental improvement.”

The air quality contract is not Ricardo’s first in the Saudi capital, having appointed to develop an integrated waste management strategy for the city in 2013.
