Uber offers free electric bikes for NHS staff

In an announcement made today (March 27), Uber has said that NHS workers will be offered free rides on electric JUMP bikes to help them get to and from work as quickly and safely as possible. 

JUMP operates in the London boroughs of Camden, Islington, Kensington, Chelsea and Hackney, and Chelsea, covering eight large NHS Trusts with tens of thousands of staff. 

JUMP is working closely with councils across the city to ensure that all NHS workers in these areas are able to benefit from this offer to help them to travel quickly and safely to work. 

NHS staff can register online to receive their free activation code to use in the Uber app. They can then receive a maximum of 50 redemptions with a cap of £10 per trip.

They can then change the mode from Rides to Bikes to see the available bikes on the app. 

Dinika Mahtani, general manager, JUMP, London, said: ‘Our brave NHS staff need everyone across the UK to get behind them and provide support however we can.

‘From today JUMP bikes will be available for tens of thousands of NHS workers to use for free, helping them get to and from hospitals so they can continue their vital work.’

In related news, BP Chargemaster is also providing support to electric taxis who are transporting NHS workers during the Covid-19 pandemic. 

The apps are offering a reduced fare for the workers, allowing them to get to hospitals quickly and at a lower cost.

NHS members can download the taxi apps, enter a pick-up and drop-off location. Then when the taxi arrives if they present their NHS photo ID, the payment will be taken directly via the app and a full £10 fare will go directly to the driver.
