Waltham Forest Council to continue zero-emission deliveries

Waltham Forest Council has announced that they will extend their contract with Zedify in order to continue their zero-emission delivery services for a further five years. 

Waltham Forest was the first council in the UK to facilitate zero-emission delivery services through its ZED Waltham Forest Project. 

This service, operated in partnership with Zedify, targets local businesses and first and last-mile deliveries using cargo bikes, trikes, and electric vehicles to courier goods within the borough and beyond.

Following on from the success of this project, the council has extended their contract with Zedify in order to continue to provide this service for a further five years. 

This will ensure that local businesses continue to have access to zero-emission delivery options, and residents can receive zero-emission deliveries to their homes.

So far, the service has delivered for over 60 local businesses, from coffee roasters, bakers to independent newspapers and magazines, as well as pharmacy deliveries. ZED also supports the council by providing book deliveries for the Council’s Libraries across the borough and permit deliveries for the Parking Team.

Cllr Loakes, deputy leader and member for environment said, ‘Our Zero Emissions Delivery service has proven to be a great success so far, and I am delighted to announce that Zedify have been awarded the contract to continue this success well into the future.

‘They have travelled over 90, 000 miles, that’s the equivalent to nearly 4 times around the earth! With over 33 tonnes of CO2e emissions saved, ZED supports our ambitious climate emergency agenda and contributes to residents living safe and healthy lives by removing delivery vans off the street. As we look to recover from COVID people are living their life more locally than ever before, with more residents choosing local, ZED can deliver and ensure that the local business community is supported.’
