All in a day’s work: The story of indoor occupational air pollution

The Trade Union Clean Air Network (TUCAN) has produced a short film on what they describe as the forgotten aspect of air pollution.

‘We spend around 90% of our time indoors,’ they say, ‘and yet these exposures are not given the same coverage as outdoor air pollution. Much of this time is spent at work and yet there is even less focus on this despite the cocktail of pollutants that workers are often exposed to.’

This film attempts to put this right by shining a spotlight on the hazards. Academic and senior trade union officers explain why this has now got to be addressed.

By way of a case study, the film looks at hazards of commercial cooking at a former market hall in Tooting, a story that we covered earlier this year.. It shows how unions and a local authority have identified the hazard and are jointly trying to find solutions in the absence of decent legal standards.
