NASA’S DC-8 flies low to study air quality

NASA Armstrong’s DC-8 aircraft is flying low to study air quality in a collaborative research project with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), called AEROMMA: studying Atmospheric Emissions and Reactions Observed from Megacities to Marine Areas.

Scientists from NOAA and aircraft personnel from the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California conduct a series of low-altitude flights to investigate urban emissions and atmospheric chemical reactions.

AEROMMA is just part of a wider project that was launched in 2023
