A groundbreaking study from the University of Sao Paulo has shown for the first time how plastic can penetrate the human brain.

Led by Professor Thais Mauad and commissioned by the Dutch NGO Plastic Soup Foundation, microplastics have been found for the first time in the olfactory bulb; a nerve node at the base of the brain involved in our sense of smell. This remarkable research shows that microplastics, from everyday objects, can directly enter our central nervous system.
