As air quality in India continues to flounder in the realm of unhealthy, hotels and shopping malls with clean, filtered air are now advertising the fact as a major selling point.
Social media users have been posting images of signs boasting of the clean air inside the buildings, often quoting the respective AQI to give their claims some perspective. As one user on X said, ‘Air purifiers are the new air conditioners’
On the image below, the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi gives the air quality index figures, as of 8am that morning. 58 in the guest rooms compared to 397 on the streets outside.
The Nexus Select Citywalk mall in Delhi have made a large sign saying: ‘We don’t recommend you wear and anti-pollution mask inside! Why? Because the air inside is ten times cleaner than Delhi’s AQI’
The mall boasts an indoor PM2.5 reading of 10μg/m³ compared to 178μg/m³ outside.
