Last chance to secure place at National Air Quality Conference

Taking place this week, the event includes speakers from ClientEarth, Defra, Mercedez-Benz and TfL

There is just one day left to book a place at the inaugural National Air Quality Conference 2014 in London this week, which will feature speakers from both ClientEarth and Defra in the wake of the landmark EU Court ruling last week.

Taking place on at 15Hatfield near Waterloo station on Wednesday (November 26), the event features a number of top air quality policy and science experts from across government and industry, as well as several delegates from the Chinese government who are set to attend.

Hosted by airqualitynews.com, the conference will give delegates the opportunity to discuss the latest developments, exchange information and learn from best practice in the field of air quality management and measurement at both a national and local level.

And, following the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU)’s ruling last week in ClientEarth’s case against the UK government over its failure to meet nitrogen dioxide limits (see airqualitynews.com story), the campaign group’s air quality lawyer Alan Andrews will give his view on the court action and what the UK needs to do to comply.

And, Defra’s head of national and local air quality Dr James Cooper will also speak at the event following the CJEU ruling last week, after which the government said it would be revising its air quality plan “to reflect recent action”.

Meanwhile, with diesel and traffic emissions a major focus of air quality policy in the UK, head of engineering at Mercedez-Benz Nick Blake will provide delegates with an overview of the company’s work toward tackling emissions through engine efficiency.

Other speakers set to engage in discussion at the conference also include IAQM chair Roger Barrowcliffe, TfL’s policy manager Sam Longman, Public Heath England’s Sotiris Vardoulakis and Oxford city council’s environmental policy team leader Mai Jarvis.
