Vehicle exhaust retrofit firms launch air quality website
The Exhaust Retrofit Emission Control Alliance (ERECA) of three European firms launches joint information and resources site
A new website aimed at promoting vehicle exhaust retrofitting as “an immediate and cost effective solution to improving air quality” has been launched by a partnership of three European exhaust emission control companies.

The Exhaust Retrofit Emission Control Alliance (ERECA) — which includes Lincolnshire-based Eminox, as well as Germany’s HJS and Proventia in Finland — said its www.ereca.eu website would provide information and resources on retrofitting vehicles.
As well as news and updates from the three companies, the site also provides information on low emission zones and explains European legislation on air quality limits.
And, according to ERECA, the website provides details of technologies that can be retrofitted to reduce emissions of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from a “wide range of vehicles and equipment”.
Aimed at promoting retrofit as “an immediate and cost effective solution to improving air quality”, the online resource presents best practice examples from projects that have “improved air quality in some of Europe’s largest cities”, the companies said.
ERECA explained that the website would be “regularly updated with the latest technological developments and retrofit projects, to become a valuable resources for air quality professionals”.
The Alliance said: “The combined expertise of the ERECA alliance includes the retrofitting of buses, coaches, trucks, vans, recreational vehicles and passenger cars. Retrofit solutions can also be deployed for non-road machines like construction machinery, forklifts and also stationary applications like generator sets. Advanced solutions combining technologies such as diesel particulate filters and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) can upgrade older vehicles and equipment to emissions levels equivalent to modern low emission vehicles and equipment.”
ERECA also said it was “committed to real world performance and testing, ensuring that retrofit solutions deliver what they promise, even in challenging urban operating conditions”.
The website unveiling follows Eminox’s announcement last month that it had retrofitted the exhausts of 10 buses in Colchester after the council secured funding from the Department for Transport (see AirQualityNews.com story).
