Pop-up EV charging system installed at Inverness hospital

Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, Scotland has taken delivery of a pop-up EV charging unit, installed in under eight hours and capable of charging up to 12 vehicles at a time.

The Papilio3 pop-up solar car park and electric vehicle charging hub, which has been supplied and installed by 3ti, is built around a recycled shipping container and they can be typically be installed in under eight hours.

By integrating local mains electricity with solar power, Battery Energy Storage Systems and EV charge points, the Papilio3 provides secure, consistent, clean solar energy for businesses whilst simultaneously providing low carbon, fast EV charging infrastructure for employees, suppliers, customers and the general public.

The hub is pre-fitted with a back-office billing system and is equipped with energy-saving motion sensors that automatically turn on the lights when a customer approaches. Fully operational CCTV also provides additional safety and security for the public.

The hospital have acquired the hub on a rental contract, saving on capital investment and with a solar capacity of 19.32kWp, the installed Papilio3 will generate on average 18MWh of electricity annually, equal to over 63,000 miles of EV range.

With the introduction of Papilio3, NHS Highland is now better positioned to support patients, staff and visitors with EVs at Raigmore. We hope that this investment in EV infrastructure helps to convince others to make the switch over to zero-emission vehicles.’
