Beyond air pollution: The growing focus on everyday chemical exposure

Air pollution and its impact on human health have been widely documented over recent decades. However, attention is increasingly turning to another environmental health challenge: everyday chemical exposure.

A growing body of research suggests that exposure to certain synthetic chemicals found in common consumer products, food packaging and household environments may be associated with an increased risk of a range of health issues, including some cancers, reproductive problems and hormone disruption.

While research is ongoing, scientists are increasingly calling for greater awareness of the cumulative impact of these exposures.
Against this backdrop, UK health testing company lastinghealth,  has launched the Everyday Chemical Test, an at-home test designed to help people measure their recent exposure to a range of common environmental chemicals and gain a better understanding of their personal exposure profile.

The new Everyday Chemicals Test screens a single urine sample for 27 metabolite markers to indicate exposure to chemicals including phthalates, parabens, pesticides, herbicides, VOCs and other chemicals we come into contact with every day, including glyphosate and BPA.

The UK preventive health market, including screenings and at-home diagnosis, was projected to exceed £1.8billion in 2025, driven by rising consumer demand for proactive, personalised health insights.

Founded by Bob Woods, CEO of Mattioli Woods, the business was inspired by his personal experience managing asthma symptoms.  He comments, ‘I firmly believe that environmental toxicity could well turn out to be the biggest health issue of our age. There’s growing awareness of plastic and atmospheric pollution but far less focus on the cumulative impact of everyday chemical exposure. We see this as the third emerging pillar of preventative health, alongside diet and exercise and we want to provide best-in-class information and testing to help people manage the risks and make the necessary lifestyle changes.’

The testing process involves a simple urine test which is analysed by an accredited laboratory using LC-MS/MS (Liquid Chromatography + Advanced Mass Spectrometry) technology. This is a highly sensitive and selective analytical technique that combines the separating power of liquid chromatography with the mass analysis capability of mass spectrometry.

The results are available via a secure online portal, which explains the likely sources of any detected chemicals, and includes a full  results report, as well as helpful lifestyle guidance to help reduce exposure.

For a one-off investment of £399 you can establish your exposure to everyday chemicals. Order now at https://lastinghealth.com/order-test
