GTEC launches free heat network training course

GTEC Training has been awarded funding from the Department of Energy, Sustainability & Net Zero to provide a free, online training course titled ‘Introduction to District Heating’.

While only 15 minutes long the course, which will contribute towards Continuing Professional Development (COPD) points, will cover the basics of heat networks, including:

  • How heat networks work.
  • Design principles for district heating systems.
  • Operation and maintenance essentials.
  • Relevant UK regulations and standards.
  • Energy efficiency and sustainability considerations.

Heat Networks currently make up just 3% of the heating market yet the ambition is f0or this to rise to 20% by 2050. This new course is aimed at helping installers, facilities managers , specifiers and others in building services and related sectors, understand and take advantage of this growing marketplace.

GTEC describe the course as being designed for:

  • Engineers, architects, and building services professionals working on heat pumps or large-scale heating projects.
  • Energy consultants and facility managers looking to build their knowledge of heat networks.
  • Contractors and developers involved in energy projects or infrastructure.
  • Professionals in the commercial or residential sectors needing an understanding of district heating systems.
  • Anyone looking to expand their knowledge about heat networks and how they are implemented

Griff Thomas, MD for GTEC, said: ‘With much potential to decarbonise built-up environments, the Government sees heat networks as an important growth area for the UK, sustaining jobs, boosting the economy and helping urban and out of town commercial developments move away from fossil fuels. Our new course will provide those with an interest in district heating with the background information to make informed decisions, equipping candidates with the fundamentals of this approach to multi-building heating: whether they’re designing, installing or managing heat networks in the future.

‘In the coming year, GTEC will be diversifying into more areas of the building services and supporting sectors, expanding our offering across the construction space to meet the demands of a fast-paced and evolving market as the UK heads towards Net Zero.’

The funded training places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. To apply visit: https://gtec.co.uk/funded-heat-network-training
