SUEZ and Southern Water to begin measuring pollutants

One of the UK’s largest water companies has signed an agreement with a leading air quality specialist to monitor greenhouse gas emissions, including nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4). 

Three wastewater treatment facilities, owned and operated by Southern Water, the seventh largest freshwater supplier in Britain, will have technology fitting allowing for real-time reporting on the air pollution generated at each site. The locations are Canterbury, Motney Hill, and Peel Common. 

This landmark agreement is part of Southern’s commitment to reaching Net Zero by 2030. However, the project will also make it far easier to understand correlations between actions at and the functions of each site, and spikes in harmful pollution, such as N2O and CH4. SUEZ’s AirAdvanced®-SCAN360 suite, which offers an innovative air quality service including monitoring, diagnosis and planning for improvements, will be used to deliver the work.
