Clean Air Day to return in 2019

Organisers of the Clean Air Day awareness campaign have confirmed the date for the third annual edition of the event, to take place in 2019.

Global Action Plan, the behaviour change charity which has coordinated the event in its first two years have confirmed that it will return on Thursday 20 June 2019.

Clean Air Day events took place across Edinburgh and a host of other cities

The 2018 Clean Air Day saw over 500 events taking place up and down the UK, organised by councils, community organisations and businesses with an aim to build awareness around the impact of poor air quality on health.

This included events in major cities including London, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as a series of other locations across the country, including city-wide clean air festivals, free public transport and bike repairs, electric vehicle trials and car-free initiatives.

Organisers estimate that a total of 1.2 million people were reached or took part in events connected to Clean Air Day in 2018.

As part of the campaign, organisers highlighted a number of areas where air pollution causes harm to human health, including in indoor environments, as well as publicising actions that members of the public can take to lessen their exposure to pollutants outdoors.

Free resources were made available including toolkits and social media guides for participating organisations.

Further details of the 2019 event are expected to be released later in the year, and Global Action Plan will be publishing a detailed report on the impact of the 2018 campaign in September.

The National Clean Air Day campaign was recognised as the Air Quality Communications Initiative of the Year at the 2017 National Air Quality Awards, organised by (see story).
