April issue of Air Quality News magazine – out now!

The April issue of the Air Quality News magazine is now live.

In this issue, Air Quality News editor Chloe Coules has shed light on the debate around the use of plants to tackle air pollution in urban areas, speaking to industry experts and high profile academics to understand how local authorities can incorporate green spaces into their clean air strategies.

Following the Mayor of London arguing that the NHS should step up its efforts to inform patients about the risks of air pollution, Tamara Krivskaya has also investigated whether healthcare professionals need to do more to raise awareness of the dangers of dirty air.

The editor also spoke exclusively with Geraint Davies MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Air Pollution, discussing the government’s recent PM2.5 targets, preventing an increase in domestic wood burning as fuel poverty rises, and becoming a global leader on air pollution.

This magazine also contains a special report, titled Clean Air & Environmental Law, which has examined the role of the courts in tackling air pollution.

Reporter Martin Guttridge-Hewitt explores how activists pushing green agendas through the courts, and lawyers adapting business practises to reflect the climate crisis, are signs of an environmental groundshift in public and private legislation.

Irmina Kotiuk, Senior Lawyer and Fundamental Rights Specialist at environmental law charity ClientEarth, also explains how human rights law can be used to fight for clean air.

We also bring you reactions to and analysis of the government’s proposed legally binding PM2.5 targets that are set to be introduced to the Environment Act 2021, and an explainer of what Brexit means for environmental law.
