There have been many attempts to accurately measure the exposure of a population to air pollution and those attempts have used a variety of techniques to try and improve on previous efforts. The London Atmospheric Emissions Inventory, for example, maps pollution fields and measures exposure levels across age groups based on an averaged level of PM2.5 at the population’s home address. But of course, people don’t spend 24 hours a day at home.
