Environmental Industries Commission tables green recovery at Parliamentary Reception

The organisation, which champions environmental companies to policymakers, met with UK politicians at the House of Commons last month.

Representatives from the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) and a number of member companies attended a Parliamentary Reception in London late-July in a bid to introduce MPs to the wealth of pioneering firms working in the UK’s green services and tech sectors.

The event included a speech by Steve Double, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at DEFRA, who discussed the UK’s new Environment Act, emphasising the need for strong collaboration between the Government and industry in order for climate targets to be met. Chris Skidmore, MP for Kingswood, presented an update on Net Zero transition, while Eastleigh MP Mims Davies discussed the skills opportunities created by the green economy.

‘It was great to see so many businesses in one place, all with the common goal of driving sustainability to create a cleaner world. In our case, air quality is the specific issue,’ said Will Parrett, Sales and Marketing Director at EIC-member, Alphasense, a specialist designer and manufacturer of gas and particulate matter sensors.

According to the EIC’s three-year corporate plan, which lays out its vision through to 2023, the organisation: ‘Promote(s) the interest of those who deliver the services and technology in the environmental business sector. We do this by bringing members together to share knowledge, experience, and insight. This shapes our tangible business support, as well as our proactive engagement with policymakers across the UK.’

A recent study of air quality in Canada has found that even small levels of pollution lead to significant public health problems.
