Final speaker announced for inaugural SW & Wales Air Quality Conference

We are pleased to announce that the addition of Dr Phillip Webb from Respiratory Innovation Wales has completed the line-up of speakers for our first South West & Wales Air Quality Conference in Bristol on 21st June.

Dr Webb is an experienced healthcare professional who cares passionately about implementing good innovative design principles that make an impact on the world around us. Live better, breathe better, be better, is a key driver for Respiratory Innovation Wales, who believe it’s always about the people not the technology. He is a keen advocate of user centric design on the basis that poor design thinking and a lack of user centric design has ‘led to the precipice of where we now are with build and air quality environments’.

The five speakers already confirmed are: 

Robert Llewellyn, a British actor famous for his thirty-year stretch as the mechanoid Kryten in the science fiction comedy, ‘Red Dwarf’. A huge EV enthusiast, Robert launched Fully Charged, a YouTube channel focussing on the future of electric vehicles and clean energy. Fully Charged has recently received a YouTube award for reaching one million subscribers and Robert was recently acknowledged as ‘Tech Legend’ at the T3 Awards.

Tessa Bartholomew-Good is Campaign Lead at environmental charity Global Action Plan, currently leading the UK’s largest campaign on air pollution, Clean Air Day, which this year takes place exactly one week before the conference. She is a behaviour and system change specialist, passionate about intersection of human and planet health. Before coming to Global Action Plan, Tessa worked for Public Health England (now Dept of Health) leading the strategy, insights and evaluation for the largest health behaviour change campaigns and programmes in the UK. 

Professor Enda Hayes (Air Quality & Carbon Management – UWE Bristol) has been working in the environmental field for over a decade with a primary focus on atmospheric emissions and their management including odour, bioaerosols, traditional air quality pollutants (e.g. particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, ozone) and greenhouse gases. He has worked with local, national and international governments on a range of air quality and carbon management projects including Defra, the South African government, the European Environment Agency and the European Commission.

Don Alexander from Bristol City Council leads on delivering the Mayor of Bristol’s vision for the city’s transport network, including supporting the development of a regional plan for a mass transit system, overseeing a £1.783m investment in post-COVID-19 walking and cycling upgrades as well as supporting the decarbonising of the city’s transport systems.

Joseph Carter is the Head of Asthma + Lung UK Cymru, the organisation supporting the one in five people living with lung conditions. They are dedicated to helping create a world where good lung health and the ability to breathe freely are a basic right enjoyed by all. Joseph is a passionate environmental campaigner chairing Healthy Air Cymru, to campaign for tougher action on air pollution in Wales. He is keen cyclist and encourages others to embrace active travel to reduce their carbon footprint.
