Northern Air Quality Conference 2023: Tackling air pollution during a recession

Our annual event in Manchester is set for Thursday 23rd March at the Midland Hotel, and will see the best in air pollution-related academic, policy and scientific research presented.

Having already published the list of speakers set to appear at the day-long meeting of minds, it’s now our pleasure to present the agenda, detailing who will take to the lectern and when.  

Although broad, our programme for this edition is focused on dealing with air pollution and other environmental threats during a time of recession and local authority cuts. This comes as the majority of top-tier councils in England prepare to raise council tax by 5% – the maximum permitted – in a bid to plug budgetary holes. 

On the day, delegates will be able to hear about research from the Runnymede Trust on how air pollution has the greatest impact on some of the most vulnerable communities in the UK. Elsewhere, representatives from areas such as Bradford, Leeds, and Southwark can offer on the ground insights of the challenges involved in making environmental inroads in areas struggling with high levels of deprivation and social inequalities, where services – and therefore finances – are already under immense pressure.
