EarthSense – Trusted Air Quality Insight for a Healthier Future
EarthSense is a leading air quality specialist, providing organisations worldwide with trusted air pollution monitoring, modelling and data services. Founded on more than 15 years of research from the University of Leicester, EarthSense combines advanced environmental science with innovative technology to help governments, businesses and communities understand, manage and improve air quality.
Our mission is simple: to enable the world to visualise and manage its air quality issues. Through award-winning monitoring technology, high-resolution pollution modelling and powerful data services, we help organisations make informed decisions that protect public health, support sustainability goals and drive environmental improvement.
Industry-Leading Air Quality Monitoring
At the heart of our monitoring solutions is the Zephyr® air quality monitor, an award-winning, MCERTS-certified indicative sensor designed to measure harmful gases and particulate matter in real time. Compact, reliable and suitable for both fixed and mobile deployments, Zephyr® provides organisations with high-quality environmental data at a fraction of the cost of traditional monitoring infrastructure.
Zephyr® monitors are used by local authorities, consultancies, construction companies, transport operators and smart city projects worldwide. The system enables users to identify pollution hotspots, monitor environmental impacts, support planning applications and demonstrate compliance with environmental objectives.
Advanced Air Quality Modelling with MappAir®
Complementing our monitoring technology is MappAir®, EarthSense’s high-resolution air quality modelling suite. MappAir® combines advanced atmospheric modelling, machine learning, weather data, traffic information and satellite observations to provide near real-time, historic and forecast air pollution insights at scales ranging from global coverage to street-level resolution.
MappAir® supports a wide range of applications, including transport planning, construction management, smart city initiatives, public health programmes and environmental assessments. By transforming complex environmental data into actionable intelligence, organisations can better understand pollution sources, evaluate interventions and plan for cleaner, healthier communities.
Case Study: Supporting Worcestershire’s Air Quality Strategy
In 2024, EarthSense deployed one of the UK’s largest Zephyr® monitoring networks across Worcestershire. The project included 24 air quality monitors, MappAir® modelling, API access and the MyAir® data platform to provide local authorities with real-time environmental intelligence.
The network enables Worcestershire Regulatory Services and partner councils to improve understanding of pollution patterns, communicate air quality information to residents and support evidence-based policy decisions aimed at improving public health. By combining monitoring and modelling, the project demonstrates how local authorities can move beyond compliance monitoring towards proactive environmental management.
