Beryl receive King’s Award for Enterprise

Beryl, one of  the UK’s leading shared sustainable transport providers has been presented with a King’s Award for Enterprise, the first shared sustainable transport operator to have received the honour.

The award was in recognition of the company’s commitment to sustainable development by providing simple-to-use, convenient and cost effective forms of shared transport that powered by both people and electricity.

To be eligible for the Award , a company must be considered to excel in any of four categories:

  • innovation
  • international trade
  • sustainable development
  • promoting opportunity through social mobility

Beryl CEO and co-founder, Phil Ellis, said: ‘For companies like us, who’s entire ethos and long-term strategy is underpinned by sustainability and carbon reduction, it’s important to practice what you preach.

‘This prestigious award recognises our commitment, not just as a green transport provider but also as a functioning business, to helping the UK government meet its ambitious aims to reach net zero by 2050.

‘More than that though, it also shows how we value people and places and really believe in the power of sustainable transport to improve lives.

‘We will continue to build on our success and have an even greater impact on the towns and cities we work with, encouraging people to adopt cleaner, greener transport habits.’

Since launching its first shared transport scheme in 2019, the company now runs schemes in partnership with over 20 local and regional transport authorities.

In October 2023, the company released the first Beryl Impact Report, outlining the key successes of its environmental and social work.

In June 2023, Beryl achieved the ISO 14001 environmental management standard, an internationally agreed and recognised standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS), used by organisations to help identify, manage, monitor and control environmental processes.

In October 2022, the company’s near term sustainability targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi); the recognised global network for ambitious corporate climate action and leading the transition to a net-zero economy.

In 2022, Beryl were also recertified as a B Corp registered company for another three years, recognising how the company continues to meet exceptional standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. The company is working hard to improve environmental and social standards with the aim of increasing the score even further next year.
